Tertiary students wanting to get the most out of their summer break are encouraged to join Sunshine Coast Council’s My Summer Workplace internship program.
My Summer Workplace is a 12-week program that runs from November to February, providing interns with the opportunity to gain experience in their chosen profession in one of Australia’s most dynamic local government organisations.
Applications for internships in the 2016/2017 program are now open. The program runs from November 21, 2016 to February 23, 2017, with a two-week break from December 19 to 2 January 2, 2017. Students will be paid a nominal stipend.
Council invites applications from current tertiary students or recent graduates looking for an opportunity to expand their knowledge, skills and passion for innovation.
Placements are offered in the areas of Economic Development & Major Projects, Events & Marketing, Human Resources, Environmental Education, Property Management and Information Communication Technology.
Commencing in 2014 with just a handful of placements, demand for the highly successful program continues to grow as students recognise the benefits of this early chance to apply their theoretical skills to real-world situations.
Kelsey O’Connor, a 2015/2016 Summer Intern who studied Media, Communication and Cultural Studies, said the program was invaluable, providing her with opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t have been available.
“I learnt so much during my internship. I was unsure what career path to take, but this program allowed me to explore my options, network, learn and grow professionally,” Kelsey said. “My Summer Workplace is a great program, the team accepts you as one of their own, and it’s also great to meet with the other interns to share experiences.“If you want to gain experience and you’re not completely sure what direction to take, this program is definitely worth considering.”
As one of Queensland’s fastest growing regions with range of key projects in the pipeline, there has never been a more exciting time to work at Sunshine Coast Council.
To be eligible for My Summer Workplace, applicants must be enrolled in a tertiary course and have completed 16 or more subjects, or have graduated within the last 12 months.
Be sure to apply for the 2016/17 My Summer Workplace by Sunday, September 25.
